1 Kings 8:22-30
No God Like You!
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven and said: “Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.” (vv.22-23)
Today, we read the prayer of Solomon, King of Israel, at the dedication of the Temple. All Israel has gathered, sacrifices have been made. The Ark of the Lord’s Covenant has arrived and been placed within the Temple. This is a day of great celebration!
Solomon begins his prayer with these words, “Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below…”
What words would you use to describe God? Why is there no other God like our God? Solomon says of God: “You keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way!”
Our God is the Faithful God. He keeps his promises. Paul describes Jesus, writing: “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘YES’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God” (2 Cor. 1:20).
Can we trust God to keep his promises to us? Can we pray this great prayer with Solomon?
The greatest question for us is this: Will we be faithful and keep our God’s commandments? Will we devote our lives to him?Tags: Bob, Church Blog, Pastor Bob, Pastors Blog
