“Ask… Seek… Knock…”
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
I have been known to “play games” with my children. When they were younger, one would ask me to peel their orange. I would gladly oblige them. Once it was done, they would extend their hands to get the now peeled fruit. Before I gave it to them, I would take a slice, explaining to them, I was receiving their tithe, reminding them “The Lord loves a cheerful giver.” I am, now, somewhat convicted of my little game. I am glad to report they are faithful givers to this day!
Jesus reminds us that God does not play games with us! We may play innocent games with our children. God does not! A good parent won’t mistreat their children, giving them a stone to eat. A good parent will do everything in their power to feed their children. They will even go so far, in the most desperate situations, to feed them first. God is faithful, he is working on our behalf. When we come to him, he is waiting. When we knock on his door, he always answers. When we seek him, he will be found. Jeremiah writes: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord… (Jeremiah 29:13-14a)
When we pray, believe our God is near and that he longs to spend time with us!Tags: Bob, Church Blog, Pastor Bob, Pastors Blog
