Holy Week and Beyond Easter Sunday

Read: Luke 24:1-12

In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!” (Luke 24:5-6a, NIV)

MaryMagdaleneTombYou are shopping for a new car. Not just any car, either, you want a red, 2-door coupe, preferably a 4 speed manual   transmission. You would like the car to be a Chevrolet, too. So, where do you go to buy that car? You do not go to the grocery store, neither do you make your way to the local Olive Garden. You do not look for that car at the movie theater, nor will you go looking for it at the zoo. In fact, were you to look for your red, 2-door Chevy coupe with a 4 speed manual transmission, in those places, someone would be right to say to you, “Why are you looking for that brand new car, here?” If you want that car you look for it at the local Chevrolet dealership or seek a deal online at www.Chevrolet.com.

Where would you go, if you were expecting to visit a person’s body who had died some three days earlier? In a society where the deceased’s body was buried on the same day as his/her death, you went to the cemetery to visit a dead   person’s body! The women went to the cemetery to visit and minister to Jesus’ dead body. They went to the cemetery  expecting to find the tomb where he had been laid undisturbed. They went to the tomb because that is where Jesus’ body should have been found.

But God… He had raised Jesus’ body from the grave. We  proclaim our faith in this truth in the Creed: “(I believe) on the third day he rose again from the grave…” When they arrived at the tomb, he was not there! They were given the unexpected news: “He has risen!” Jesus is not among the dead! He is alive forevermore. Our Savior… our Redeemer… our Sanctifier… our Lord… HE IS ALIVE!

Thank God, that our Lord and Savior, Jesus, is alive; that he reigns with the Father and makes intercession for us; that he is coming again!
